Swim Vietnam, founded by MetaSport (previously known as Tribob) in 2008, is now a UK registered charity based in Hoi An, which provides free swimming lessons for Vietnamese children. Drowning is the number 1 cause of death in children in Vietnam. It is called the “silent epidemic” by international aid agencies such as UNICEF.
2011 has been a great year for Swim Vietnam, here are some of our main achievements:
- Over 1000 more children successfully taught to swim.
- Portable pool and training programme installed in Duy Xuyen (rural deprived area)
- AUSTSWIM training course held for 30 new swim teachers
- Class started for children with disabilities
- 20 of our student’s took part in the Kid’s Aquathlon at the Vietnam triathlon this year
With your continued support we aim to make 2012 a great year for communities in Vietnam by rolling out the project to other provinces and training new teams local staff to keep the project sustainable.
