MetaMates: Training Hard, Bonding Harder

Hi everyone!

I’m Raphael, your Coaching Services Manager — and if you’ve ever trained or partied with us, you’ll know the MetaMates spirit is all about going all-in, whether it’s in the pool, on the track, or at the BBQ pit.

This year has been one of our most exciting yet, with more members, more events, and more memories made together. Let me give you a taste of what life as a MetaMate looks like!

Weekly Training: Sweat, Smiles & Serious Gains

We train almost every single day — and trust me, there’s never a dull moment.

  • Mondays: Fast swim nights. Race-style sets written by Kate & Guy Crawford, with Coach Fiona and me making sure no one slacks off.
  • Tuesdays: Track day. 5km of hard running, with threshold groups and eagle-eyed coaches Bastian & Jon keeping everyone sharp (and injury-free).
  • Wednesdays: The crowd favourite! A double swim session — technique + endurance. Fiona and Bastian lead the way, blending swim fundaMENTALs with a healthy dose of fun.
  • Thursdays: LSD (Long Slow Distance) runs. Open to all, with pace groups cruising through the CBD and Marina Bay for 1–1.5 hours.
  • Saturdays: Super Saturdays! Open water swims, brick sessions, combat skills — every week’s an adventure.
  • Sundays: Long or beginner rides. We roll out in groups, but the real highlight? Breakfast together after.

Upcoming Highlight: Train with Guy Crawford!

We’re turning things up a notch with a special Training Weekend with professional triathlete and coach Guy Crawford — the mastermind behind our MetaSport training programmes.

Guy Crawford has over 20 years of professional racing and 15 years of coaching experience in triathlon and endurance sports. He’ll be leading two action-packed days designed for all levels — from Standard distance athletes to Ironman hopefuls.

Each session includes pace-based sets tailored for your race distance, followed by a post-training Q&A and debrief with Guy himself — a rare chance to learn from one of the best.

Exact meeting points will be shared soon (likely Seletar and Sentosa), so keep an eye out for updates!

Whether you’re gunning for a PB or just want to learn and improve, this weekend is for you. All abilities are welcome — just bring your energy and curiosity.

Social Life: Because We Don’t Just Train Together

It’s not all sweat and sets — MetaMates know how to have a good time, too.

  • MetaSprint Series: We kicked off the year strong, snagging 2nd overall! Of course, the beer and satay after-party was the real win.
  • Awards Night at Kazbar: A night of food, drinks (many, many drinks), and celebrating our outstanding members.
  • BBQs Galore: We love our grills as much as our bricks. Big thanks to Luke for hosting the first, and to Mike and KS for manning the fire!
  • Race Trips: IM Desaru was a huge bonding weekend — with 5150, 70.3, and even a little golf thrown in. Coming up: Challenge Malaysia (20 of us!) and IM Busselton (25 strong!).

Every event, whether it’s a race or a dinner, just brings our community closer. That’s the secret sauce of being a MetaMate.
