29 May Embracing green practices as an athlete
At MetaSport, we challenge ourselves everyday to take actions to be greener. Today we want to share valuable tips for you to become a more environmentally conscious athlete. Here’s how you can limit waste, pollution, and more while you work towards sports goals.
Eliminating waste in the first place is better than recycling and reusing. Choose concentrated products like powders or tablets, which can be mixed into reusable bottles. Additionally, always carry a reusable water bottle with you during training sessions or participating in our upcoming green race, Run As One Singapore that is happening on 2 July 2023.
GIVE A SECOND LIFE TO YOUR SHOES AND CLOTHES
Just because you’re done running in your shoes does not mean someone else won’t enjoy walking and living in them in a second life. The same goes for your clothes. Decathlon SG offers a program where you can donate your old shoes. Visit their store at any time to contribute to this worthy cause. Furthermore, during our recent MetaSprint Series, we organized a booth where participants could swap or donate unwanted sports clothes. We will continue to provide this feature at our upcoming events.
MINDFUL TRANSPORT CHOICES
You can limit your footprint by carpooling, taking public transport, cycling, running and walking to get to your training locations or events. Incorporate exercise into your daily commute by cycling to work instead of driving and then attending an evening spin class. You’ll be working out and saving the planet at the same time!
EMBRACE LOCAL AND SUSTAINABLE OPTIONS
Supporting smaller, local businesses often translates into fewer resources and manpower used. Choose to shop from these options whenever possible, as it contributes to the overall sustainability of your community.
OPT FOR HYBRID GEAR
Apparel and shoes with creative designs and fabric technologies can serve multiple purposes in different climates. These hybrid products effectively reduce your environmental impact without compromising performance.
While adopting these practices may initially seem challenging, once incorporated into your daily routine, they become second nature. Join us in taking these essential steps towards a greener lifestyle. As you participate in events like the Run As One Singapore, let’s collectively contribute to a sustainable future through our actions.
